Centering Families Program
Henry J. Austin Health Center’s ‘Centering Families’ program is based on the curriculum of the national Centering Healthcare Institute’s ‘Centering Parenting.’ The program acknowledges the significance of both the baby’s and the parent’s health. Parents are urged to engage in conversations about their health goals, practice positive parenting skills, manage stress, focus on family nutrition, and consider family planning.
In Henry J. Austin Health Center’s Centering Families program:
- Babies around the same age, along with their moms or caregivers, meet with their healthcare providers in regular sessions.
- All sessions take place in a group setting, fostering a circle of shared experiences, advice, and questions.
- Moms or caregivers actively participate in the screening of their babies, facilitated by healthcare providers.
- Each mom or caregiver receives a Centering Parenting notebook containing valuable information, tracking pages for the baby’s growth, and the moms’ health and wellness.
- The group sessions are led by a primary provider facilitator and a clinical or non-clinical co-facilitator.
- The relaxed and interactive sessions include engaging activities and refreshments during milestone events.
- In addition to the group setting, each session includes dedicated one-on-one time with the provider, including scheduled immunizations.
Henry J. Austin Health Center’s, Centering Families is a group care model of the Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI), Centering Parenting.
