Are you interested in learning or volunteering with Henry J. Austin Health Center? Our student and volunteer opportunities at Henry J. Austin Health Center offers vital assistance to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community.  From one-time events to an on-going commitment, Henry J. Austin Health Center learning and volunteer work take many forms. We offer a variety of volunteer positions and opportunities throughout our organization.

Henry J. Austin Health Center welcomes and encourages interns and students from local colleges and universities to learn for training.  Through internships or practical education, students learn by undertaking tasks and assignments in specific departments and are assigned a preceptor who is a person who guides, tutors, and provides direction aimed at a specific performance. Students at HJAHC apply during the corresponding school semester schedule they are enrolled in.  HJAHC students gain a knowledgeable understanding of the workforce‐of, both students and professionals, and a more significant skill set. If you are a student at a college or university and wish to learn and be part of one of our joint educational partnerships, they are also several opportunities available at Henry J. Austin Health Center. We currently have learning partnership programs with the following institutions:

  • Pharmacist Students

Rutgers, School of Health Professions, Interprofessional Education

  • Psychiatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner Students
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker Students
  • Rehabilitation Counselor

AmeriCorps VISTA

One of our exciting volunteer opportunities is in partnership with the nation’s AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) Program. This is a national service program dedicated to ending poverty by building the capacity of nonprofit organizations and public agencies. Through capacity building activities such as fundraising, grant writing, research, and volunteer recruitment AmeriCorps members in the VISTA program serve in an office setting and gain experience and leadership skills. This opportunity prepares members for a life of service in the public, private, or nonprofit sector.

Our AmeriCorps VISTA work with our staff in departments such as Human Resources, Communications, Hepatitis C Education, Pharmacy, and Behavioral Health. While serving as a VISTA, volunteers apply their knowledge and as well as develop new skills in a new and exciting environment all while contributing to an overserved population. Learn more about the AmeriCorps VISTA program or fill out our volunteer application below.

Another unique volunteer opportunity is through Catchafire. Catchafire volunteers can flexibly volunteer on skilled-based projects that ultimately help our patients and community. You have access to flexible, virtual volunteer engagements that exercise your skills and support causes you hold dear. All engagements have a mutual opt-in process and with your unique talents, you can support positive change – all while building your resume & gaining references in the process.

Volunteers assist with projects emphasizing on health and nutrition, youth development, diversity, and inclusion as they work alongside our staff developing strategies, creating designs, and editing organization information. Learn more about volunteering with Catchafire or fill out our volunteer application below.
