Board Member

Mr. Alfonso Q. Llano currently serves as the Acting Superintendent of Schools with the Trenton Board of Education. He brings over 22 years of leadership and educational experience to the role. Mr. Llano served previously in Trenton Public Schools as an Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and Assistant Superintendent for School Support, where he supported school level leaders across the district.

Before his current role, Mr. Llano served as Principal of Grant Elementary School, a K-5 Elementary School in the Trenton Public School District. As Principal, Mr. Llano led the school community to improve student outcomes, resulting in Trenton’s first K-5 elementary school advancing out of the state’s lowest-performing five percent of schools. Mr. Llano also served as Vice-President to the Trenton Administrators and Supervisors Association, where he advocated and supported administrators’ efforts across the Trenton Public Schools.

Mr. Llano possesses a bachelor’s degree in Communications, a master’s degree in Instruction and Curriculum, a second master’s degree in Educational Leadership – Urban Leadership, and is currently pursuing an Executive Ed. D at Seton Hall University, College of Education and Human Services.

Mr. Llano’s education experience began in Perth Amboy Public Schools, where he served as a bilingual basic skills teacher and a third-grade teacher. He also served for two years as a Vice-Principal and Supervisor of Gifted and Talented programs in the Howell Township Public Schools and as a Principal in Readington Township for five years before arriving in the Trenton Public Schools in 2011.
