MAJOR FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations or Designee, provides assistance and protection to persons and property in and about Henry J. Austin Health Center's building, grounds and parking areas; maintains orderly conditions and takes measures required to assure observance of the law; responsible for related duties including, but not limited to:
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Makes scheduled tours of facility and grounds, by patrolling offices, buildings and grounds, including parking areas. Complete all duties/tasks outlined in the Daily Security Checklist.
  • Takes action as required to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, disorder and /or damage or loss to the Centers property.
  • When required, reports to supervisor or police authorities any unusual or suspicious condition detected.
  • Guards employee entrance during arrival and departure of employees at main shift changes and prevents unauthorized persons from entering the buildings and grounds.
  • Opens or locks doors, windows and gates at proper times based on operating schedule.
  • Gives assistance when accidents or illness occur, as in emergencies.
  • Greets all patients/clients/customers via telephone or directly in a personal and professional manner.
  • Prepares and keeps simple but clear, accurate and legible records.
  • Assists in various tasks in the general upkeep and repair of facilities including, but not limited to Essential Functions.
  • Maintaining lighting within facilities.
  • Minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist in maintenance of grounds (grass, woods, trash, and snow removal).
  • Perform and maintain preventative maintenance duties and logs; keep daily records of tasks completed.
  • Greets all patients/clients/visitors in a personal and professional manner via telephone or directly.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer or designee.
  • Participates in mandatory quarterly fire drills as part of facility fire brigade.
  • Participates in safety training and quarterly In Services as required.
  • Working hours are subject to change.

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from high school, vocational school, or possession of an approved high school equivalent certificate.

PREREQUISITES FOR THE JOB:

  • Must have attained age of 18 years. Applicant must be citizen of the United States.
  • Police training department training or security guard experience.
  • Must hold a currently valid driver’s license.
  • Successfully completed American Red Cross first-aid and CPR course or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and plumbing.
  • Experience in maintaining a health care facility preferable.
  • Security Officer Registration Act certificate (SORA)

  • Accountable to the Director of Operations or designee for all phases of activities.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
