MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
The psychiatrist will work as part of an interdisciplinary team in an integrated care model. The psychiatrist will provide consultation services and direct patient care in the delivery of psychiatric services including assessment/evaluation, diagnosis and treatment to patients and their families in a community-based /medical home setting. They will work collaboratively with other HJAHC Clinicians in an effort to provide comprehensive treatment to the patient and his/her family. Further, the Psychiatrist will work very closely with medical providers, behavioral health counselors, care coordinators, and patients to meet patients’ multiple clinical and non-clinical health needs through an evidence-based integrated care model.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provides a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation as required per program guidelines.
• Provides psychiatric consultation both primary care providers and behavioral healthcare consultants. This consultation provides the opportunity for peer review.
• Prescribes psychotropic medications as necessary.
• The Psychiatrist is expected to be available for any emergency while he/she is at the site and to be on call during hours when he/she is not. It is understood that emergency
medical procedures are to be followed until consultation can be provided.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records of all evaluations, treatments and prescriptions given.
• Serves as a member of Peer Review Committee.
• Provides consultation to the nursing and clinical staff at the site.
• Arranges for appropriate psychiatric coverage during vacations, holidays and extended sick leave.
• Maintains high quality patient care, which meets the expectations set forth by Henry J Austin.

EDUCATION & LICENSURE/S REQUIREMENTS
• Medical graduate degree from a legally incorporated medical college or school.
• Board Certified Psychiatrist who has a license to practice in New Jersey.
• Licensed by the state of NJ to practice medicine and must have completed a residency program in psychiatry at an accredited residency training facility.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Three years experience providing clinical supervision and meets Board of Behavioral Sciences and/or Board of Psychology requirements to supervise unlicensed clinical trainees (MFTs, ASWs).
• Thorough knowledge of culturally sensitive therapeutic principles and practices in social work and/or psychology, including case management, individual and group counseling techniques, diagnosis, and treatment of a broad spectrum of mental illness.
• Specialized training and experience in the principals of integrating behavioral health assessment and treatment in the primary care setting.
• Experience working with vulnerable patient populations in a culturally and ethically diverse community.
• Knowledge of the community and a commitment to serving vulnerable patient populations.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in crisis situations, as well as ability to work effectively on a team.
• Displays a team spirit; demonstrating respect, cooperation, consideration and tact in dealing with peers, supervisors, and others.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written skills.
• Consistently demonstrates empathy and compassion in conduct towards clients/patients and their families.
• Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus.

PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of the community with a commitment to serving vulnerable patient populations.
