MAJOR FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the Clinical Applications Specialist is responsible for the continual flow of computerized information within the clinical departments. Primary responsibility for the management of computerized information for the clinical nursing, Medical Staff and other clinical based systems. Performs related work including, but not limited to: .
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Works cooperatively with providers and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of Henry J. Austin Health Center, Inc., according to the established policies and procedures.
•Assists in the development and interpretation of clinical system reports. Train department managers to self-generate predesigned reports.
•Develops and provide application expertise to provide consultation and support to appropriate department staff in the proper use of clinical applications.
•Analyzes processes and related data requirements to identify application configuration improvements and recommends workflow improvements where appropriate.
•Actively pursues improving the usability of clinical applications to facilitate more effective utilization of current tools, and increased operational efficiency throughout the organization.
•Aids in system and process design and development for ongoing HIT initiatives.
•Analyzes training needs to develop new training programs or modify and improve existing programs. Partner with management to assess and identify staff training needs based on projected organizational processes, changes, and other factors. Assist in the development of training programs and clinical system usage procedures.
•Develops and provides training and documentation on new features.
•Gives end user training in functional use of applications.
•Serves as liaison between staff and vendor on all PMS/EMR/EDR software issues.
•Attends daily issues meetings, reports back outcomes, and distributes daily communications, such as tip sheets, to help implement the changes.
•Responsible for meaningful use processing.
•Assigns Provider’s schedules;works closely with Assistant CMO and CMO.
 
EDUCATION:
•Minimum: Associates Degree; healthcare related degree preferred.
•Two (2) years of experience in computer programming, information system design and systems analysis, which shall have involved some responsibility in the development and implementation of data processing systems.
•Applicants who do not possess the preferred education criteria may substitute additional experience as indicated above on a year-for-year basis.
